MISSING CATS IN KILFENNAN
In the last two weeks in the Hillcrest area of Kilfennan, one couple experienced 3 of their cats dissappear. One grey tabby and white female, 2 black males with a little white on chest. One of the males was wearing a chain collar with ID but this may have come off. Please contact the centre if you have any information. This is very upsetting and worrying for them. If you live in this area please check your sheds in case they have been locked in. Please keep an eye for these pet cats.

Alfie's Story
Little "Alfie" was found hiding under a hedge on the Kildoag Road a few weeks ago. On the night he was brought into the Rainbow Centre it was immediately obvious that he was traumatised. His whole body was shaking and he was terrified. He appeared to be lame on both a front leg and hind leg and he was very nervous of people. He flinched every time he was touched and cowered when approached by staff. Because he appeared so distressed we tried to make him as comfortable as possible for the night and left him alone to settle in.
By the next morning he had come round quite a bit and his tail was even wagging slightly, so we were pleased with that. However a member of staff was concerned after she discovered ‘suspicious’ lumps when she finally managed to handle little Alfie a few days later. There were a number of small hard lumps under his skin in the area of his chest. There were quite a few of them and they were very hard. We asked Louise, a vet from Drumahoe Vet Clinic who was visiting the Centre that day to feel the lumps. She said she believed that they were foreign objects like pellets and said the only way to find out was to x-ray him. So the following day Alfie was x-rayed and we were horrified to find out that this little dog had a total of 19 pellets inside him. He had been shot repeatedly and clearly intentionally by a very disturbed individual(s).
Considering what this little dog had suffered at the hands of humans it was no wonder he was traumatised. We can only imagine the terrifying and extremely painful ordeal he endured.
Despite what little "Alfie" has been through, he has proven to be a little fighter and is showing more and more of his character every day. He is a very loving and affectionate wee man who deserves a lot of ‘TLC’ in a loving home. Hopefully he will find his forever home soon.

Land for new centre
The Rainbow Rehoming Centre is actively seeking land where we could build a purpose built centre to improve conditions for the animals. Our existing building is not adequate due to the number of animals coming into our centre. We are open to suggestion for the area and ideally we would be looking for approximately 1 or 2 acres of land, but we are open to any offer. If you could offer help or advice, please contact us.
